Nikol Pashinyan Presented Details of Conversation with Aliyev

Armenia

After the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission Nikol Pashinyan briefed reporters and spoke about his meeting with the Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.

“No results. It was just a contact. Neither Aliyev, nor myself were expecting results. We just talked. Of course, we discussed Karabakh. But this is not a negotiation, we were simply sharing our perceptions of this issue, how we perceive this issue, how our publics perceive,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

In answer to the question whether during the meeting they discussed giving up on territories and return of Stepanakert to negotiations, Pashinyan said: “The statements that I made publicly, of course, all issues were discussed during out meeting. I have stated repetitively that in these negotiations I can represent the Republic of Armenia, I cannot represent the Republic of Artsakh for the simple reason that the citizens of Artsakh do not vote to the elections of Armenia and they did not elect me prime minister, they elect their president, have their parliament and government. Therefore, I cannot negotiate on behalf of Nagorno-Karabakh. This is clear to everyone,” Pashinyan said.

He added that the journalists, the citizens want to know all details that he and the Azerbaijani president discussed. “However, it is unethical when they go out and tell everything the spoke. On the whole, you all know what we spoke about because the conversation was within the framework which matches my public statements.,” he said.

Speaking about the timing of formal talks with Aliyev, he said the foreign ministers of both countries are currently negotiating but there is nothing specific as of now.
