Prosecutor General’s Office Replied to Letter by Current and Former Presidents of Artsakh

On 7 May 2019, the Prosecutor General’s Office received a letter from the current president of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan and the second president of Artsakh Arkady Ghukasyan urging to change the measure of prevention applied to Robert Kocharyan, the ex-president of Armenia held in custody for the March 1 case.

The Prosecutor General’s Office clarifies, considering the public interest in the letter widely published by press, that a measure of prevention can be changed only by the body conducting proceedings, which is currently the Court of Yerevan. The Prosecutor General’s Office has already forwarded the criminal case to the Court of Yerevan for trial which means that the Prosecutor General’s Office is no longer the body conducting proceedings, hence the processing of their letter is out of the scope of competencies of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
