Ex-president Kocharyan Spoke About Hiding Letter of National Security Service

Armenia

The trial of the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan continued today. Kocharyan spoke from time to time and shared information with the court. He spoke about the letter of the National Security Service to the police on 28 February 2008. This is the letter based on which the police operation on Freedom Square was launched.

Kocharyan said during the investigation of all the cases related to his custody this letter was hidden from the court.

“The prosecution hid this letter of the National Security [Service] from judges in all the processes of remanding in custody. We only discovered it after receiving the whole file of the criminal case. Interestingly, it was hidden by the investigator and prosecutors, and the counsel for the defense had no chance to familiarize with it,” Kocharyan said.

Besides, according to Kocharyan, the case misses the files collected by the National Security Service on the period between February 24 and March 2, 300-350 pages in total.

“Another thing, in this criminal case only one person from the National Security Service has been interviewed. Nobody else was interviewed, over 800 people were summoned as witnesses but only one person from National Security. I am saying this just to ensure you imagine the quality of the case at this stage,” he added.
