20 Officers of Dilijan National Park Charged for Illegal Logging: Damage Assessed at 1.6 Billion


20 officers in charge of protection of forests were arrested in the result of revelation of a large number of cases of illegal logging in Dilijan National Park. In the result of joint effort during the investigation the Police, the National Security Service and the investigative body, a number of cases dating from the years 2016-2018 were revealed. The trees were cut town with misuse of powers, negligence, failure to properly implement their duties, as well as policies and procedures of revealing cases of illegal cutting of trees by the management, forestry officers and rangers of the national park. False handover-acceptance acts were signed, as well as the stumps of illegally cut down trees were not reported. 20 people are charged, including one deputy director of forestry, 2 forestry officers and 17 rangers. The total damage is 1.6 billion drams, the Prosecutor General’s Office informs.
