Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh

Armenia

On June 12 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh made a statement on the territories of Artsakh occupied by Azerbaijan.

“27 years ago the armed forces of Azerbaijan, with the assistance of the subdivisions of the 23rddivision of the former Soviet Army occupied Shahumyan region of Artsakh. In the following period the greater part of Martakert was captured; on the whole, about 50% of Artsakh was occupied.

So far the region of Shahumyan and part of the regions of Martakert and Martuni have been occupied by Azerbaijan where the Azerbaijani government implements an unlawful policy of resettlement.

The issue of restoration of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Artsakh and the return of the indigenous Armenian population to their homeland still pend a solution, which is one of the core components of settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict.”
