The representative of a victim of the March 1 case, a former member of the factfinding group on March1 Seda Safaryan and the barristers of the second president Robert Kocharyan have filed motions for withdrawal of Judge Armen Danielyan. Seda Safaryan said there is no confidence in objective and unbiased examination of appeals by the judge, Armenpress informed.
“The judge was appointed during Robert Kocharyan’s office and served this regime, as well as passed groundless decisions before on March 1, convicting dozens of people without grounds and harming the reputation of courts in international organizations,” Safaryan said.
The counsel for the defense Petros Petrosyan said the fact that Armen Danielyan was appointed during Robert Kocharyan’s office does not mean that this person will be restrained in making decisions, and as to the circumstance that earlier Judge Danielyan took part in the examination of thecase, according to the prosecutor then the evidence available to the judge differed essentially from the evidence obtained now, so the judge must disperse doubts and make an objective decision.
The counsel for the defense joined the motion for withdrawal but did not support the arguments provided.
Other barristers of the second president Hovhannes Khudoyan and Sevan Torosyan also filed motions for withdrawal of Judge Danielyan, referring to low credibility of his decisions in public and his low rating.
The trial was adjourned until 4 pm, June 18.
