The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a conversation with the Russian ambassador in the context of not interfering with the domestic affairs of Armenia, the chair of the Standing Committee for Foreign Relations Ruben Rubinyan posted on his Facebook.
“Today, after the meeting of the Standing Committee for Foreign Relations during which the meeting of the Russian Ambassador with Robert Kocharyan was discussed, I talked to the foreign minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. The minister informed me that last Friday the Russian Ambassador was invited to the MFA where a conversation took place with the ambassador in the context of not interfering with the domestic affairs of Armenia. The deputy minister Grigor Hovhannisyan did not say this during the meeting of the committee because at the moment he did not have approval to publish this information,” Ruben Rubinyan stated.
Earlier today the deputy minister of foreign affairs Grigor Hovhannisyan said during the meeting of the Standing Committee for Foreign Relations that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia is not concerned about the meeting of the Russian Ambassador in Armenia with the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan because the diplomatic protocol has not been breached.
Member of Parliament Arman Babajanyan, Bright Armenia parliamentary group, asked a checking question to the deputy minister whether it is not a concern for the MFA that a person accused of the March 1 crimes had a two-hour meeting with the ambassador of our ally. He inquired why the ambassador has not been called to the foreign ministry yet.
“The ambassador did not commit any wrong act from the point of view of the diplomatic protocol and norms. It cannot be condemned or become a subject of a special investigation by our agency. Of course, we all saw public opinion but from the point of view of diplomatic protocol we cannot object or make a statement,” the deputy foreign minister said.
For me, as the chair of the Standing Committee for Foreign Relations this meeting is embarrassing and not commendable, Ruben Rubinyan stated.
