Armenia

The municipality of Yerevan launches the EU-funded project of installation of solar systems on the roofs of 90 residential buildings. 50 buildings have been chosen for the first phase of the project instead of the planned 45.

The power generated by the solar systems will be used for elevators, lighting of the floors and the backyards. The lights will be replaced with LED lights as part of the project, the head of the staff development and investment programs of the municipality of Yerevan Tigran Sargsyan informed.

The criteria for choosing the buildings include seismic resistance, population which should not be below 75%, the number of underprivileged families.

The selected buildings have 9-14 floors and flat roofs. Aside from the social importance this project also has an environmental importance. Thanks to the project greenhouse gases in Yerevan will be reduced by an annual 850 tons.

The systems will serve for at least 25 years. Currently bidding is going on which is open to all interested companies.
