Last night the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense Artrun Hovhannisyan informed that an Armenian citizen is currently in Azerbaijan. The spokesperson wrote details would follow.
Earlier the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan had informed that an Armenian serviceman, Ara Haik Ghazaryan, had crossed the Azerbaijani border from the Armenian positions in the direction of Fizuli region.
Today Minister Davit Tonoyan told reporters at a briefing in Dilijan that investigation is on to find out how the serviceman Arayik Ghazaryan appeared in Azerbaijan.
“At this stage the investigation of what happened is still going on. Personally, I think that our serviceman has lost his way geographically,” Tonoyan said.
In answer to the request of the journalists to comment on the Azerbaijani press reports that the serviceman appeared in Azerbaijan after he underwent inhumane treatment, the minister said it is another Azerbaijani fake news. “I don’t think it should be spread. I believe he simply lost his way,” Tonoyan said.
With regard to return of the serviceman, the minister said they have already liaised the relevant international organizations, namely the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Speaking of the serviceman’s mental health in the military unit, the minister said they will be able to give a clear answer after doing some work. “We all are worried about this incident but I think everything will go well,” the minister said.
Tonoyan called on the armed forces of Azerbaijan to stop spreading fake information.
Today the Ministry of Defense of Artsakh made a statement commenting on the rumors in the Azerbaijani press that Private Arayik Ghazaryan deserted and appeared on the Azerbaijani side due to violence and as evidence that he underwent violence they demonstrate light scratches and scars on Private Ghazaryan’s body.
The Ministry of Defense of Artsakh states that this is the typical practice of the Azerbaijani propaganda machine and calls to discard the false claims of the Azerbaijani side the sole purpose of which is to play down on the image of Armenian soldiers and to wait until the investigation is completed and its findings are published.
