President Sarkissian Signed Law Ending President’s Authority to Sign Constitutional Amendments


President Armen Sarkissian has signed the package of amendments to the Constitutional Law National Assembly Rules of Procedure and the adjunct laws discontinuing the authority of the president to sign the constitutional amendments adopted by the National Assembly. The constitutional amendments adopted by the parliament will become effective after their publication by the speaker of parliament, Armenpress informs.

After the enactment of this law President Armen Sarkissian is no longer authorized to sign the law on constitutional amendments after the publication of which the tenure of three judges Alvina Gyulumyan, Felix Tokhyan and Hrant Nazaryan will be terminated, and the chair of the Constitutional Court Hrair Tovmasyan will continue as a member of the Constitutional Court.

The law on constitutional amendments will be enforced the next day from its publication by the speaker of parliament.
